Pan Dorobou
What is Pan Dorobou?
Pan Dorobou is a comedy TV short currently airing in Fall 2026, adapting Keiko Shibata's beloved picture book series about an unlikely protagonist: a sentient piece of bread with a talent for larceny. The show follows this mischievous bread character as it pulls off heists against bakeries throughout the city, creating an absurdist premise that blends slapstick humor with the surreal concept of bread stealing bread. This format makes it ideal for viewers seeking lighthearted, bite-sized entertainment that doesn't require long-form commitment.
The series began airing on October 2, 2026, with new episodes rolling out regularly. As of now, the show is actively releasing episodes, with the fifth installment scheduled to air on October 30, 2026. The short-form TV format means each installment delivers quick laughs without substantial time investment, making it convenient to watch alongside longer seasonal series. Fans of quirky comedy and those nostalgic for adaptations of children's literature will find Pan Dorobou's straightforward, playful premise instantly appealing.
Based on Keiko Shibata's picture book "Pan Dorobou" (Bread Thief). The picture books center on a piece of bread that also steals bread from bakeries in the city. (Source: Anime News Network, edited)
