What is Detective Conan?

Detective Conan follows Shinichi Kudo, a brilliant high school detective known as the "Modern Sherlock Holmes," who becomes mysteriously shrunk to the body of a seven-year-old after witnessing criminal activity and being poisoned. Trapped in his child form, Shinichi must hide his true identity while living with his childhood sweetheart Ran and her father, a bumbling detective, using his genius to solve the cases that surround them. The series blends mystery, comedy, and psychological intrigue as Shinichi pursues the shadowy organization responsible for his transformation while maintaining his cover.

Detective Conan began airing in winter of 1996 and continues to release new episodes. The show is currently ongoing, with the next episode scheduled for October 2026. Most episodes follow a standard runtime, though the series occasionally features extended episodes running approximately fifty minutes, ninety minutes, or longer to accommodate special storylines and arcs. Some installments incorporate Keisatsu Gakkou-hen—Wild Police Story into the main narrative, adding variety to the case-solving format.

This long-running series appeals to audiences who enjoy intricate mysteries, character-driven storytelling, and a blend of humor with darker psychological elements. The premise creates natural narrative tension as Shinichi races against time to uncover the truth behind his condition while solving countless murders and crimes alongside Ran and her father's detective agency.

Kudo Shinichi is a seventeen year-old high school detective whom people call the "Modern Sherlock Holmes." However, one night after a date with his childhood sweetheart, Ran, Shinichi witnessed an illegal trade and, caught off his guard, was knocked unconscious and fed a drug that was supposed to kill him... but he woke up and found himself shrunken to a seven year-old. In order to track down the men who did this to him, Shinichi hid his identity and lived with Ran, whose father happened to be a hopeless detective, and with that came a series of murders and mysteries that he must solve.
